Gangway Goodbyes - 6

Hi there! If you came here looking for a new comic, then I've got a bit of disappointing news, as I have decided to put Cadelita on hiatus. I should have done this sooner, and I apologize for the lack of foresight.

It's become very apparent that I bit off more than I could chew. There are things I'm good at, but art is not one of them. Were this a collaborative effort, I'd be the guy writing the story, not drawing the panels. I enjoy drawing and I've improved a bit since I started the comic, but having it out in the open sets a different kind of standard from when it was just practice for myself. While I have thought about getting someone to ink things for me and help me deliver the comic faster, this whole thing is still in its infancy. Right now, I don't think I have anything palpable to convince anyone to come aboard, and I'd like to see how far I can go on my own.

Cadelita was originally planned to follow a gag-a-day format, but I don't know how many chances I'll have to tell a story, and that influenced me to change the comic into a manga-like approach. What I should have done was try and finish the first chapter before posting anything, because at the rate I'm doing things, what few people make up my current audience have probably stopped caring or gotten frustrated at the lack of progress. What upsets me the most is that I kind of knew this would happen, but I still took a gamble, so I have no choice but to deal with the results (or lack thereof). I realize now that posting something new every once in a blue moon wasn't the best way to get feedback or force myself to get better at this. It was a poor decision, and one that has taught me to be more careful from this point onwards.

The plan now is to do what I should have done from the start: finish the first chapter before I decide what to do next. Even after the entire chapter is done, I will hold off on posting it until I have a very clear idea of how to proceed and know with absolute certainty that I can post new pages regularly. Will I learn to draw fast enough to continue the comic on my own, or will I have to ask for help? Can I rearrange my life so that I can sit down and do this on a regular basis? Should I just postpone the whole thing indefinitely? I'd like to have the answers to these questions, but I know it will take some time until I can definitely say for sure.

So, I guess that's it for now. I'm sorry to disappoint you, whether you came here looking for the next page or just happened to stumble upon this comic, and I completely understand if you've lost all interest already. I know it's a bit late to ask this of you, but please treat what I've shown so far as nothing more than a proof of concept rather than the actual product. I'll still strive to make this happen. If it does, you'll be the first to know. If it doesn't, I will have given it my best shot. To me, that's what matters most.

Thank you for visiting, and until we meet again, have a fantastic time!
